The Clark County Comprehensive Planning Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Principal Planner position. This position performs professional level work on difficult, complex, specialized, and/or sensitive projects within the current and advanced planning divisions. Candidate will also train, support, and review the work of professional staff.
Current Planning Division: Current Planning primarily reviews projects for conformance with Clark County's Master Plan and Unified Development Code (Title 30). These projects require a decision from the Zoning Administrator, Planning Commission, and/or the Board of County Commissioners and generally include zone changes, special use permits, major subdivisions, and design reviews. This division is also responsible for providing information on zoning matters to the public, providing support to the local Town Boards, and carrying out other various planning activities to promote public health, safety, and general welfare of our community.
Advanced Planning Division: Advanced Planning is primarily responsible for long range planning projects. This includes comprehensive master plan updates and amendments, zone changes, parks and trails planning, demographic and housing information, transportation plans, and other special projects. Certain projects involve consultants and project workgroups, which are managed by the division and includes preparation and review of professional contracts and reports. This position works in close coordination with consultants and a variety of departments, and coordinates outreach with the general public, stakeholder groups, advisory boards, and citizen advisory councils. Assignments within the division may be presented to the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree with major course work in city, regional, environmental, transportation or urban planning, public or business administration, or related field AND four (4) years of full-time professional planning experience. An advanced degree in city, regional, or urban planning or another appropriate area and project or functional leadership highly desirable. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.

Working Conditions: Attend meetings outside of normal working hours.
Licensing and Certification: Specified positions must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. A.I.C.P. certification preferred.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
