Employment: Full-time

About Blue Health:

Blue Health builds healthcare technology and complementary products that make a real difference. We move fast, learn continuously, and care deeply about the people who use our products and the teammates who build them.

The Opportunity:

As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll lead across architecture and hands-on delivery. You'll design and evolve scalable systems, set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and partner with Product to shape technical roadmaps for our health tech products and other applications. You balance pragmatic execution with long-term quality, security, and performance.

What You'll Do

  • Own system and solution architecture for key domains; lead design reviews and write clear RFCs/architecture docs.
  • Build and evolve services, APIs, and integrations; drive performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Champion security-by-design and privacy best practices; align with compliance needs.
  • Raise the bar on code quality, testing strategy, CI/CD, observability, incident response, and postmortems.
  • Mentor and unblock engineers; model high-quality design and implementation practices.
  • Collaborate with Product/Design to shape roadmaps, break down work, and make sound tradeoffs.
  • Lead technical investigations, run POCs, and evaluate tools/vendors to de-risk decisions.
  • Contribute hands-on to critical paths while enabling teams with strong patterns and abstractions.

Stack you'll work with

MERN applications (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js)

Python services (e.g., FastAPI/Django/Flask)

Modern cloud-native tooling, containers, CI/CD, and observability

(provider-agnostic: AWS/Azure/GCP)

What Were Looking For In You

  • Ability to Lead Youve successfully led teams and delivered products; you can manage stakeholders and expectations. Culture Fit Positive attitude and a steady, constructive influence on the team.
  • Effective Communication You actively listen, synthesize, and articulate decisions and tradeoffs clearly.
  • Ability to Build Solutions You solve complex, system-level problems and contribute to implementation.
  • Ability to Handle Uncertainty You navigate unclear requirements and guide the team to shared domain and technical understanding.
  • Flexibility Not tied to a single framework; eager to learn and adopt the best tool for the job.

Background & Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.
  • 4-5 years of industry experience building and operating production systems, with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Experience conducting code reviews and performance evaluations is required.
  • Strong, hands-on web development and system design experience; ideally full stack, with the ability to tackle system design problems.
  • Proficiency with MERN and/or Python-based services; experience across multiple stacks is a big plus.
  • In-depth understanding of source control, build pipelines, and release management (GitHub/GitLab/Azure DevOps/TFS).
  • Cloud-native experience (AWS/Azure/GCP), containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes or similar), and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Strong testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and production observability (logs, metrics, traces).
  • Experience building products from the ground up and at scale is a big plus.
  • Healthcare exposure (FHIR/HL7, EHR/EMR integrations) and HIPAA/SOC 2 experience preferred.
