Position Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Process Engineer will recommend and implement process improvement initiatives and execute Capital Improvements as directed. The Process Engineer will own process capability, yield, and line performance across packaging and processing. They will lead data-driven improvements (OEE, scrap, labor efficiency), execute trials/validations for new products and materials, and standardize best practices to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, strong attention to detail, and possess the ability to handle multiple competing demands while ensuring deadlines are met.

Position Responsibilities

  • Throughput & Overall equipment effectiveness: Analyze constraints, implement single minute exchange of die, line balancing, and total production maintenance basics to lift OEE and reduce minor stops.
  • Yield & Giveaway: Build mass-balance and loss trees; drive material loss and giveaway down via SPC and center-lining.
  • Process Control: Establish critical parameters, create control plans, and deploy statistical process control with clear reaction plans.
  • Trials & Commercialization: Plan/execute line trials (new SKUs, packaging, ingredients), including install qualification, operator qualification, performance qualification and handoff to Operations.
  • Standard Work: Create/update standard operating procedures, one-point lessons, and centerlines; train operators and leads.
  • Problem Solving: Lead structured root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone) and corrective actions; maintain profit failure modes analysis and control plans.
  • Quality & Food Safety: Partner with quality on hazard analysis critical control point, allergen controls, sanitation validations, and food safety audit readiness compliance.
  • Data & Reporting: Build daily/weekly performance dashboards (OEE, yield, changeover, downtime Pareto); communicate wins/gaps.
  • Cost & Continues Improvement Projects: Deliver scoped CI pipeline with internal rate of return, net present value where applicable; track benefits to budget.
  • Equipment & Layout: Collaborate with Maintenance/Engineering on minor mods, guards, sensors, and ergonomic improvements; support capital expenditure justifications.
  • Engineer out risks; participate in job hazard analysis and near-miss investigations
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline is required.
  • Two (2) years process engineering experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills are required. Should be able to identify necessary criteria when evaluating a process/system.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills are required; intermediate skills in Excel are required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time is required.
