Aptar is seeking a Process Engineering Technician based in McHenry, IL. This position is fully onsite.

As a Process Engineering Technician, You Will: Be involved with sampling, developing, optimizing and troubleshooting molding processes based off the 4 plastics variables along with troubleshooting molds and auxiliary equipment. This role serves as a technical leader and coach, focused on training, standardization, and data‑driven decision‑making to improve safety, quality, cost savings and efficiency.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Serve as a trainer and technical leader, translating process concepts into practical, usable guidance for the floor.
  • Develop and lead training for Process, Setup Technicians and Material Handlers.
  • Ensure improvements and quality non-conformances are embedded into training, documentation, and daily work practices to sustain results over time.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve stable, repeatable, and data‑driven injection molding processes using scientific molding principles.
  • Lead end-to-end new mold qualification activities, including trial planning and execution, capability studies, definition of process windows, and systematic process development.
  • Lead structured troubleshooting and root‑cause resolution efforts
  • Carry out cost reduction efforts through optimizing tooling, processes, new technologies and materials.
  • Perform regular process audits, and review of quality data and take appropriate action based on findings.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • State certified Injection Molding Journeyman Certificate or equivalent (RJG MM1 certificate). Advanced Scientific Injection Molding Certificate preferred
  • Minimum 8–10 years of injection molding experience, including process development, troubleshooting, new mold launches, and production support in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred, or willingness to successfully complete the Green Belt program.

Required Skills

  • Must have advanced thermoplastic knowledge of scientific injection molding principles using the 4 plastics variables
  • Must possess a detailed understanding of molding machines, injection molds, resins, colorants and auxiliary equipment (robots, conveyors, material loaders and gravimetric blenders)
  • Experience working with high cavitation molds preferred
  • Experience working with hot runner controllers preferred
  • Strong understanding of scientific molding principles, with the ability to establish stable, repeatable, and data‑driven processes.
  • Working knowledge of decoupled molding concepts and appropriate applications to improve consistency and repeatability.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean manufacturing tools
  • Experience with MES systems, digital dashboards, and process data analysis preferred.
  • Demonstrated strength in communication, coaching, and mentoring, with the ability to create technical documentation, develop talent, and drive change.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the starting salary for this role is $28.00/hour.
