  • Quality Assurance & Inspection Support
  • Coordinate with quality / inspection team to ensure received materials/components meet specification (visual inspection, test certificates, traceability).
  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for non-compliant items, manage returns / replacements with supplier.
  • Ensure packaging, labelling, documentation (e.g., certificates of conformity) are in order.
  • Cost Management & Budget Control
  • Work within procurement/budget targets, identify cost-saving opportunities (bulk orders, alternate materials, improved vendor terms).
  • Provide cost breakdowns, report on spend vs budget, escalation for variances.
  • Support manufacturing / project teams to avoid cost overruns due to material delays or change orders.

4 Corner Resources+1

  • Inventory & Materials Planning Support
  • Help define minimum stock levels / safety stock for critical components of switchgear manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with production/planning for lead-times, bring in materials in time to meet manufacturing schedule.
  • Help manage obsolescence / slow-moving stocks (especially high-spec items in switchgear).
  • Regulatory & Compliance Management
  • Ensure procurement follows local UAE regulations, import/export laws, customs duties, trade licences, standards (e.g., IEC, ISO).
  • Adhere to company procurement policies, ethical sourcing, anti-bribery, sustainability as applicable.

  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes (automation, ERP integration, vendor consolidation).
  • Keep abreast of market trends in switchgear components (new technologies, alternative materials), propose innovations.
  • Support cost optimisation programmes and supply chain resilience (alternate sourcing, risk mitigation).

Specific considerations for a switchgear manufacturing company in the UAE

  • The UAE has significant manufacturing, import/export, and regulatory aspects (GCC approvals, customs, local content requirements) — so procurement engineer must be familiar with local/regional supply chain challenges (shipping from Asia/Europe, duties, lead-times).
  • Switchgear manufacturing often has high technical spec items (high voltage components, safety critical, test certificates) so supplier technical competence and documentation are vital.
  • Lead times for some switchgear components can be long; the procurement engineer must plan ahead and coordinate with production schedule to avoid delays.
  • Import duties, local sourcing opportunities, vendor qualification in GCC could help cost saving and faster logistics — advantage in UAE region.
  • Interface with engineering/design changes is frequent in switchgear; procurement must be flexible and responsive to specification changes.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain/Procurement.
  • Previous experience (3-7 years or more) in procurement in manufacturing (preferably switchgear, electrical equipment, heavy engineering) in UAE or GCC.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical/mechanical components used in switchgear manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, logistics/import procedures.
  • Experience with ERP procurement modules, MS Office, data analysis.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adhere to schedules, manage multiple purchase orders and priorities.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (IEC, ANSI, ISO) and local/regional regulations.
