Procurement Engineer

Job Title: Procurement Engineer

Job Summary

The Procurement Engineer is responsible for managing the sourcing, negotiation, and purchasing of materials, equipment, and subcontract packages to ensure timely delivery, cost efficiency, and compliance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement Planning

  • Review project drawings, BOQ, and specifications to identify procurement requirements
  • Prepare procurement schedules aligned with project timelines
  • Coordinate with Project Manager and Planning Engineer on priorities

2. Supplier & Subcontractor Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and prequalify suppliers and subcontractors
  • Maintain an updated vendor database
  • Obtain and compare quotations (technical & commercial)
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules

3. Technical Evaluation

  • Ensure materials comply with project specifications and approved submittals
  • Coordinate with technical/engineering team for material approvals
  • Review material submittals in line with procurement packages

4. Purchasing & Order Management

  • Prepare and issue:
  • RFQs (Request for Quotation)
  • Purchase Orders (POs)
  • Subcontract Agreements
  • Track orders from placement to delivery
  • Ensure timely delivery to site as per project schedule

5. Cost Control

  • Achieve cost savings through negotiation and value engineering
  • Compare prices and prepare commercial evaluation reports
  • Monitor procurement budget vs actual spending
  • Support QS team in cost analysis and reporting

6. Coordination

  • Coordinate with:
  • Site Engineers for material requirements
  • Storekeepers for stock availability
  • Finance team for payment processing
  • Ensure materials are delivered with proper documentation

7. Logistics & Delivery

  • Track shipment and delivery schedules
  • Resolve delays or supply issues proactively
  • Coordinate with logistics team for imports (if applicable)

8. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain procurement logs:
  • RFQ log
  • PO log
  • Delivery status log
  • Prepare procurement reports and updates
  • Ensure proper filing of all procurement documents

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • 3–7 years of experience in procurement within construction or fit-out industry

Skills

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Good technical understanding of construction materials
  • Proficient in MS Excel and ERP systems
  • Ability to analyze quotations and contracts
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

Preferred Experience

  • UAE construction / fit-out experience
  • Knowledge of local suppliers and market rates
  • Experience with authority-approved materials
  • Familiarity with contract terms (FIDIC is a plus)

  • Cost savings achieved vs budget
  • On-time delivery of materials
  • Accuracy of procurement documentation
  • Supplier performance and reliability
  • Reduction of material delays impacting project
