Job Summary
The Procurement Engineer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, subcontractors, and services required for steel fabrication, structural steel erection, PEB, façade, fit-out, and construction projects. The role ensures timely procurement of quality materials at competitive prices while maintaining compliance with project specifications, budgets, and schedules.
Key Responsibilities: Procurement & Sourcing
- Review project drawings, BOQs, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Source suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors for project requirements.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from multiple vendors.
- Prepare comparative statements and procurement recommendations.
- Negotiate prices, delivery schedules, payment terms, and contract conditions.
- Issue Purchase Orders (POs) and monitor order execution.
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain a reliable supplier database.
- Conduct supplier evaluations and performance assessments.
- Establish long-term relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
- Monitor vendor compliance with contractual obligations and delivery commitments.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering, Estimation, Production, QA/QC, and Project Teams.
- Ensure procurement activities align with project schedules.
- Track material requirements and forecast future procurement needs.
- Resolve material shortages, delivery delays, and supply chain issues.
Material & Technical Review
- Review technical specifications, material submittals, and approved vendor lists.
- Verify material compliance with project requirements and standards.
- Coordinate with technical teams regarding alternative materials and value engineering opportunities.
- Ensure purchased materials meet project and client specifications.
Cost Control & Budget Management
- Achieve procurement cost savings without compromising quality.
- Monitor procurement budgets and report cost variances.
- Support tendering and estimation teams with supplier pricing.
- Maintain records of procurement expenditures and commitments.
Logistics & Delivery Monitoring
- Follow up on manufacturing, shipment, and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate logistics and transportation arrangements.
- Monitor material delivery status and ensure timely site/factory receipt.
- Resolve discrepancies related to quantities, quality, and documentation.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain procurement records, contracts, purchase orders, and vendor documentation.
- Prepare procurement status reports and delivery tracking reports.
- Ensure proper filing of quotations, comparisons, approvals, and purchase records.
- Support audits and compliance requirements.
RequirementsEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 4–8 years of procurement experience in construction, steel fabrication, structural steel, PEB, façade, or fit-out projects.
- GCC/UAE experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of structural steel, fabrication materials, PEB systems, and construction materials.
- Experience in procurement planning and vendor management.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong negotiation and commercial evaluation skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
