Produces content programs for Houston Public Media (HPM). Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

1. Pitches, develops and produces media content, both digital and broadcast, in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.

2. Integrates entry-level, interns and work study students into project processes to better benefit the overall goals and objects of HPM.

3. Keeps track of current events in the framework of organizational objectives.

4. Participates in project processes as needed and stays current on media landscape changes.

5. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of six (6) months of directly job-related experience.


Houston Public Media is seeking a digital video producer/editor for its Digital Team who can produce multiple pieces of content on daily deadlines within a collaborative team environment. This person will primarily edit footage and produce accompanying thumbnails for videos from our daily livestreamed talk shows (Houston Matters, Hello Houston). This means editing timely video with short turn-around times to continue building the video library for our YouTube channel as well as social platforms and website. Each video will need SEO-oriented titles and written descriptions to drive video views. The ideal candidate must have experience in video editing and production. Being familiar with news topics and current events is a plus as well as working in a news or media environment that operates in the news cycle. There will also be occasional editing of videos for other Houston Public Media needs, which could include daily news and fundraising.

What You'll Do:
Editing video content using Adobe Premiere
Using the Adobe suite to design and produce thumbnail graphics
Meeting daily digital deadlines and uploading final videos
Collaborating with digital team colleagues, talk shows producers

What You Bring:
Background in Mass Communications, Film/TV, or equivalent real-world production experience
Power-user of Adobe Premiere and Photoshop
Strong communicator with a sharp editorial eye
Curious, creative, and tuned into what's next in video storytelling
Calm under pressure and great at managing competing deadlines
Meticulous about accuracy and visual quality
Excels in fast-moving, deadline-driven environments
