Follett Denver currently has an opportunity for a Product Compliance Engineer to join our team!
The Product Compliance Engineer is responsible for coordinating product compliance engineering activities with project teams and outside agencies, leading the completion of product safety, sanitation, and performance certifications for new product development, and sustaining product improvements. Responsibilities also include participation in assigned product and process projects and supporting teamwork, project planning, providing technical inputs, and problem-solving as required.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance and maintain certifications of both new and existing products to meet international, domestic, and global government regulations and marketplace requirements such as UL, NSF, CE, Energy Star, etc.
- Serve as the key engineering contact for communications with 3rd party certification agencies and government bodies; coordinate the review and approval of agreements, contracts, and project quotations.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant product electrical and mechanical safety, food safety & sanitation, materials of use, environmental, and performance standards and regulations for the U.S. and global marketplace; participate in standards development activities.
- Translate compliance requirements to technical design direction or definition for product design teams to meet the requirements of the relevant technical standards and regulations domestically and internationally.
- Coordinate the completion of product design submittals and test results for certification.
- Create and maintain accurate and secure agency product design documentation reports, technical construction files, test reports, and product model number Listings.
- Ensure appropriate product marking and maintain product marking database, business system component compliance databases, and design documentation notes and references.
- Host regular audits by 3rd party agencies during factory visits and resolve any reported findings as required.
- Maintain Follett lab certification for refrigerator, freezer, and ice maker performance testing; support expansion of lab certifications to include performance testing of other product lines and product safety evaluations.
- Participate in the strategic product planning process for identifying and defining product development / improvement projects to support business growth objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field with experience in a product development environment.
- Mid-level engineering position; 3-10 years of professional experience with product compliance experience.
- Demonstrated compliance and certification experience with UL, NSF, CE, IEC/CB Scheme, EU Food Contact, WRAS, etc. for product safety and sanitation.
- Demonstrated compliance and certification experience with RoHS, REACH, TSCA, California Proposition 65 for materials.
- Demonstrated compliance and certification experience with CEC, DOE, NRCan, Energy Star, and NSF 456 for energy efficiency and performance requirements.
- Demonstrated product development experience.
- In-depth knowledge of various appliance-type controls and components.
- Demonstrated unit qualification testing knowledge and experience for product safety and performance, data collection, and analysis.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in office, lab, and shop floor environment (temperature-controlled/non-temperature-controlled)
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
- Lifting/moving objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Regular use of hands and fingers to type on keyboard, operate computer mouse, use of telephone and various office equipment.
- Extended periods of viewing computer monitor.
- Noise level in work environment: low to moderate.
