Position Overview:

In this technical role, you will be taking our artwork and laying it out into product templates, as well as performing additional production design functions such as adjusting typography in our artwork, adding customer logos, and creating product image mock-ups – all in a fun, collaborative, and creative environment with great people. You will balance a high volume of technical and creative tasks by using aesthetic judgement to translate our artwork across our products through excellent attention to detail. You will collaborate regularly with all Lantern Press teams to keep on top of product orders and mock-up requests.

This position is initially expected to be onsite 5 days/week for training. After getting up to speed, we may consider work-from-home 2-3 days per week, but it is not guaranteed. Lantern Press provides full benefits, is located in the SoDo area of Seattle and has plenty of free parking.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Navigate between a large volume of repetitive, technically-oriented and data-driven tasks with a high level of accuracy and efficiency and creative tasks that require a strong design aesthetic and thoughtful solution.
  • Pull orders from multiple systems and prioritize tasks based on communicated priorities or company standards.
  • Follow technical standards to execute a successfully designed product (i.e. die lines, templates, color standards, printing methods, etc.).
  • Format art to be printed on a variety of products of different sizes and dimensions and levels of complexity (keychains, mugs, stickers, drinkware, t-shirts, etc.)
  • Using current art and/or photos, make changes based on customer requests and requirements. This could include changing typography, adding or changing words, sizing and/or layout so that the image maintains its integrity/style, etc.
  • Manipulate images to fit the different formats, which may include drawing out blank spots in the image based on the size/dimensions of the products.
  • Take feedback on work, implement changes, learn from it, and apply it in future work.
  • Consistently create product designs that meet our brand’s design and quality standards and keep track of those standards for a variety of artworks and how they need to be executed.
  • Always maintain accurate file organization standards, naming conventions, and template standards.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate regularly in a variety of mediums including video meetings, email, internal messaging system and in person.
  • Regularly provide input on ways to improve internal processes to increase efficiency.
  • Proof team member’s work as needed.
  • Support the Illustrators with new types of production tasks when they arise.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 1-2 years or more of relevant experience in prepress, production art and/or production design.
  • Bachelor's Degree or AAS degree in Graphic Design or another related discipline is preferred but not required.
  • Industry experience designing for products in the gift market such as paper products, stickers, drinkware, home décor, apparel and accessories is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite apps: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with barcode usage and their technical specifications.
  • Strong proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with RGB and CMYK color spaces, spot colors and color separations and manual imposition procedures preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be flexible as priorities change day to day.
  • Self-starter with excellent organization and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Possess a sharp and critical eye for detail with a perfectionist mentality. Not happy unless each pixel of the image or product design is thoughtfully designed and up to brand and quality standards.
  • Able to switch gears quickly to cover multiple requests and projects each day.

Compensation and Benefits

There are several factors that we consider when determining the pay range for a position, such as market data (compared to companies of similar size, industry and revenue) and internal equity. To determine where a specific candidate falls in the range, we also consider relevant skills, experience and fit for the position.

The pay range for this position is: $26.00 per hour to $36.00 per hour.

Lantern Press offers a comprehensive benefits package and generous time off that includes:

  • 17 days of PTO, 7 days of Floating Holiday and 7 company paid holidays each year (pro-rated based on start date).
  • A choice between a PPO plan, HMO plan, or HSA Plan (all include vision). We pay 80-90% of employee-only coverage, and 50-60% of family coverage.
  • Dental insurance, long-term disability insurance, life insurance and a pre-tax commute plan.
  • A 401(k) plan.
