Production Superintendent

Position Summary:
The Production Superintendent’s responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and overseeing all production activities, including both manufacturing facilities, to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role requires balancing production schedules, quality standards, cost control, and workforce management, while meeting customer deadlines and supporting continuous improvement initiatives, not limited to, but including production per man-hour, reducing equipment downtime while ensuring equipment is available for PM and required cleaning.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Planning & Scheduling

Assist Planning with the Production Schedule, focusing on efficiency.

Coordinate material availability, labor allocation, and equipment usage to meet demand.

Balance production loads between facilities to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.

Operations Management

Manage daily production activities, ensuring adherence to SOPs, GMPs, and regulatory requirements (FDA, cGMP, NSF, etc.).

Monitor yields and throughput to identify variances and continually direct corrective actions.

Oversee blending, encapsulation, tablet compression, powder filling, stick pack, and packaging operations with the main focus on efficiency, while maintaining compliance. Monitor labor costs and report average costs to the sales department and the General Manager. Reduce waste, scrap, and rework through proactive controls.

Leadership & Development

Direct and train production supervisors, line leads, and operators across both facilities.

Recruit, train, and coach staff to ensure competence, cross-training, and cooperation.

Require supervisors and managers to consistently enforce attendance and performance standards.

Quality & Compliance

Partner with Quality Assurance (QA) and Regulatory Compliance teams to ensure all products meet established quality standards.

Ensure accurate documentation, including Batch Production Records (BPRs) and RedZone documentation.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

Implement Lean Manufacturing and drive continuous improvement.

Identify and resolve bottlenecks, equipment inefficiencies, and process deviations.

Track and improve KPIs: OEE, throughput, and labor efficiency.

Equipment & Facility Coordination

Collaborate with Maintenance and Planning to allow appropriate time for equipment maintenance schedules. Coordinate with the Sanitation department to minimize downtime. Participate in capital equipment planning, selection, and validation for both facilities. Coordinate as needed with scheduling, Warehouse, QA, and QC teams to maintain adequate availability of ready-for-use raw material, packaging component, and label batches.

Serve as the key liaison between Production, R&D, QA, QC, and Customer Service.

Support new product launches and pilot runs to transition formulations from R&D to full-scale production.

Participate in management meetings to align production with overall company goals.

Working Conditions

Regularly exposed to distracting or uncomfortable noises.

Must wear safety gear and PPE, such as goggles, face masks, respirators, etc.

Are frequently exposed to various ingredients and dust.

Often work with or near potentially hazardous equipment.

Reporting & Accountability

Reports directly to: General Manager.

Direct Reports: Production Managers, Supervisors, Line Leads, and Operators (multi-site).

Metrics of Success: On-time delivery, batch yield, compliance audit results, labor efficiency, and cost savings initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work well unsupervised and take the initiative to complete tasks and lead successful teams.
  • Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office, Gmail, Notion, Redzone, and Virtual Office; comfort in learning new systems.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in Production Management required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, stooping, and extensive use of hands in a repetitive manner.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
