Compensation Range: $67,500 - $72,500 yearly commensurate with experience.

Overview:

In collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), the Housing Works Justice Initiatives Department launched a pilot program, CREATE: Cannabis Reentry Employment Assistance and Training Experience Program, that is designed to provide individuals 21 years of age and older with previous justice-involvement with specialized classroom and on-the-job training to prepare individuals for a career in the newly emerging Cannabis Retail industry. It is an eight-week, paid training program that includes two-weeks of classroom training and six-weeks of on-the-job training in a designated NYC licensed cannabis dispensary.

Reporting to the Vocational Program Manager, the Program Coordinator will be primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the program, leading communications and collaboration with key stakeholders, develop and maintain partnerships with licensed dispensaries and other retailers in the sector, provide supervision to the Internship Supervisor and Case Manager and oversee quality assurance and quality improvement efforts. Candidates for the Program Coordinator position will ideally have experience working with individuals, or communities, impacted by the criminal legal system, knowledge of the retail or cannabis industry, skilled in providing workforce development or employment readiness services and a passion for participating in the development of this newly emerging sector.


Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the CREATE Program.
  • Provide supportive, consistent supervision with the Internship Supervisor and Case Manager.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with licensed dispensaries and other industry employers.
  • Participate in program outreach activities such as provider presentations, tabling events or other networking activities.
  • Lead liaison between Housing Works and key stakeholders and funders.
  • Enhance and revise classroom training curricula and materials to ensure information is up-to-date with industry standards.
  • Work closely with program and department leadership to develop and implement quality standards.
  • Ensure the program is compliant with internal and external standards.
  • Engage and lead quality improvement activities.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Facilitate team meetings.
  • Increase awareness cross-agency regarding CREATE Program services and mission.
  • Submit weekly, monthly and quarterly reports timely.

Secondary:

  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance to Housing Works policies and practices.
  • Promotes Housing Works core values consistently.
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse clients with varying levels of service needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other team members within the Justice Initiatives Department and cross-agency.

Other functions that may be required with this position include:

  • Attend and participate staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Responsiveness to emails, texts and phone calls.
  • Ability to adapt and successfully uphold job functions in a full remote workforce or hybrid in-person remote workforce environment.
  • Adhere to remote workforce policies, procedures and protocols.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in social services, psychology, social work or other related field.

The following are qualifications and requirements of the position:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in the legal cannabis sector.
  • Experience working with justice-impacted individuals, as well as substance use and mental health issues.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required
  • Experience utilizing EMR systems.

The following additional competencies are viewed as important to success in this position:

  • Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent or proficient technical skills to perform tasks related to Microsoft Office, email and case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Dependability and reliability to arrive and depart timely for scheduled shift.
  • Ability to frequently travel within the boroughs via public transportation.
