The Program Coordinator I is responsible for monitoring ignition interlock program participants based on administrative and/or judicial requirements. Reports are received daily from approved Ignition Interlock Service Providers approved by the Commissioner of the Division of Motor Vehicles. This position must review and evaluate data for violations and ensure that the reports are accurate and in compliance with NC’s Ignition Interlock Standards and Procedures. The Program Coordinator I must also review participant records of those issued a DL with a BAC and II restriction, limited driving privileges issued by the courts, and suppression orders from the Attorney Generals’ Office in order to determine proper ignition interlock time credit. When necessary, the Program Coordinator I must also amend the driving record to correct ignition interlock inaccuracies.

The employee selected for this position will be expected to:

  • Possess skills in rendering decisions and abilities to conduct fair and impartial hearings through knowledge of the Guides, Regulations, Policies and References to protect the constitutional rights of all parties involved.
  • Possess good listening skills to provide excellent verbal/written communication.
  • Possess the ability to make a final fair and impartial decision.
  • Possess communication skills through establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies, DMV personnel, District Attorneys, trial lawyers, judges and law enforcement officers.
  • Type a minimum of 45 WPM.

The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: working knowledge of NC General Statutes, experience reviewing and interpreting legal documents, working knowledge of NC’s Ignition Interlock standards and procedures and/or

  • Demonstrated ability to make fair, unbiased decisions by interpreting and applying North Carolina General Statutes, administrative rules, and departmental policies to case-specific facts.
  • Experience engaging with a diverse range of individuals, including law enforcement agencies, DMV personnel, district attorneys, trial lawyers, judges, and law enforcement officers, to facilitate information exchange and resolve issues.
  • Experience evaluating situations, exercising sound judgment in decision-making processes, and effectively coordinating actions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service to a varied and diverse audience, ensuring responsiveness and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Experience using, entering, and extracting information from mainframe and web-based computer systems and applications as well as demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, to manage documentation and reporting tasks efficiently.

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
