Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida is seeking a Full-Time Match Specialist for the Fort Walton area.

NOTE:

This position is doing program work in an office talking with volunteers, children and parents. MUCH of the work is done on the phone. This person will also help with (as needed) volunteer interviews, children's interviews, match meetings, volunteer recruitment and speaking engagements.

Must be able to work alone as well as with a team.

MUST be honest and a person of integrity.

Must be willing and able to visit a child's home if necessary knowing that many times this might be a neighborhood lacking in safety.

Non-Negotiable

The most common hours are Monday through Friday however the hours fluctuate depending on what is due that day. Employee does set daily schedule depending on appointments, calls, meetings and speaking engagements that need to be made. Sometimes these hours are 8 - 5 and sometimes they may be 9-6 or 10-7. A team member may work 9-5 today but tomorrow may have to reach several middle school students so would work 10 to 6 or something similar. There are also occasional weekends but only due to a match activity or a fundraiser and that is usually 4 or 5 times a year maximum. Staff will never work over 40 hours a week.

Must be willing to attend community meetings as well as board meetings and speaking engagements as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide support to and build relationships with mentors, youth and parent/guardian(s)
  • Able to research and find resources to help the matches be successful
  • Able to research and find resources to help families
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with local schools, community partners within the county.
  • Provide match support in a timely manner and within the requirements of the Standards of Practice of BBBS. Match support includes but is not limited to: scheduled in-person, telephone and electronic contact with matches, ascertaining that the elements of child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled, and that potential problems and barriers are identified and addressed as early as possible.
  • Help matches form and sustain appropriate child and adult volunteer relationships based on positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Effectively assess and execute the following relational support skills: guiding, supporting, confronting, advising and/or negotiating
  • Must be able to relate well in multicultural environments
  • Ensure high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management within the matches.
  • Develop strategic interventions to identify and help strengthen match relationships that require extra support.
  • Implement and promote match activities to support ongoing volunteer involvement through individualized recognition, annual events, and re-engagement strategies.
  • Conduct evaluations on matches when needed.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written summaries of all contacts with accordance to national and local standards. Excellent and timely documentation skills are crucial.
  • Administer measurement tools, to include customer satisfaction surveys, program outcome evaluations, strength of relationship and youth outcome surveys.
  • Ensure the Standards of Practice and Policies and Procedures are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of education, recreation, human service, child development, psychology, social work or related field OR Associate's degree and 2 years experience in the above related field.
  • Excellent computer skills a must.
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Give and accept feedback well

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time as needed for events
  • Lift 30 pounds
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Bend, squat and kneel
