Programming Associate

Job Description

The Programming Associate primarily assists the Library Assistants in completing their duties relating to the planning, coordinating, and staffing of library events. This position also performs a variety of duties related to the circulation of materials, special programming, and assisting patrons. The Library Programming Associate performs more difficult clerical work requiring a higher degree of skill, experience, and independent judgment. This position requires attention to detail, good organization skills, some knowledge of library practices and procedures and the ability to work positively with the general public.

Works under the specific supervision of the Library Assistant, Programming Specialist and the general supervision of Library Director. Basic supervision of the Library volunteers during their designated volunteer shifts

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs library related computer work such as entering and retrieving data, creating flyers and informational handouts, and other programming content.
  • General upkeep of library to maintain orderliness, cleanliness, safety.
  • Supervise volunteers including, but not limited to, the following:
    • Answer questions about assigned tasks.
    • Evaluate the accuracy of work.
    • Oversee volunteers during their designated volunteer shifts.
  • Assists with the preparation and delivery of special reading programs and services for children, adults, and young adults; and supervision of program planning, execution and presentation by volunteers.
    • Works with the Library Assistants to accomplish related tasks and promote youth services.
    • Coordinates children's service operations with other library services and functions, develops programs and services to meet specific needs of residents.
    • Assists in promoting library use, especially programing and services of the children's service.
  • Outreach to the schools and community is an extremely important aspect of this job.
  • Covers for Library events in the absence of the Library Assistant and uses existing content and curriculum for additional sessions of preexisting programs.
  • Attend professional meetings and training courses as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One semester of advanced coursework in early elementary education
  • Three (3) Years previous experience in a Library, with six (6) months experience working with Children ages 0-8.

Certifications:

  • Six (6) Uplift Certification Courses through the Utah State Library, or one hundred or more (100+) training hours in equivalent Library coursework
  • A valid class D Utah Driver's License.
  • First Aid
  • CPR

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge of library practices and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge of library automation software program
  • General PC computer operations
  • Correct use of English language and vocabulary, both written and oral
  • Interact with the public in all situations while maintaining a professional, pleasant, and courteous demeanor
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Edge, and Power Point
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with volunteers, the public, and other employees
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Exercise sound and good judgment at all times
  • Utilize Koha ILS software and event registration software
  • Utilize self-check units, inventory wand, RFID antennas, and automatic material handler (AMH) for returns
  • Utilize efficiently office equipment including, but not limited to, a photo copier, telephone, facsimile, calculator, and shredder
  • Utilize efficiently time management skills
  • Work independently with general supervision
  • Handle stressful situations calmly
  • Determine process and methods best suited to accomplish job duties

  • Sit at a desk or table to operate a computer and related equipment and to type, read, proofread, interpret, and apply information obtained therefrom.
  • Must be able to regularly walk, stand, or stoop.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or move boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or move carts of items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Work at a computer for sustained periods of time while maintaining efficiency, attention to detail, alertness, proficiency, and accuracy.
  • Drive to meetings and appointments

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range:

Full wage range is as follows, please note hiring will normally occur at the minimum of the range and will not exceed the midpoint.
Min: $19.60/hr.
Mid: $23.52/hr.
Max: $27.44/hr.

Benefits:

This position does not receive benefits

Schedule:

Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Friday: 8:30 am- 5:30 pm (1/2 hr. lunch)
