Project Accountant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our financial team. The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects with a strong emphasis on construction loan draw administration. This role ensures accurate cost tracking, compliance with lender requirements, and timely preparation and submission of loan draw packages. The Project Accountant works closely with Project Managers, lenders, subcontractors, and internal accounting teams to maintain financial control throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit monthly construction loan draw packages to lenders.
  • Compile and verify required draw documentation, including:
  • Subcontractor and vendor invoices
  • Conditional and unconditional lien waivers
  • Budget vs. actual cost reports
  • Track committed costs, job cost reports, and remaining balances.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and compliance with approved project budgets.
  • Monitor retainage and ensure proper release per contract terms.
  • Coordinate with lenders, inspectors, and third-party consultants to resolve draw discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready draw files in accordance with lender guidelines.
  • Post approved loan draw funding into the accounting system.
  • Assist with month-end close related to project accounting.
  • Perform month end closing and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, lender requirements, and contract agreements.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in construction accounting or project accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction loan draws.
  • Strong knowledge of job cost accounting and construction budgets.
  • Experience reviewing invoices, lien waivers, and contracts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred).
  • Sage 300

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
