Accounting Specialist – Construction (AP/AR)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist with a strong background in construction accounting, specifically Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online and understands job costing, subcontractor invoices, and construction billing workflows. Buildertrend experience is a plus.

This role supports daily accounting operations and works closely with project managers, vendors, and ownership to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

• Enter and code vendor and subcontractor invoices by job and cost code• Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and approvals• Track subcontractor insurance, W-9s, and compliance documentation• Request and track lien releases prior to payment• Prepare AP aging reports and payment batches• Resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and internal teams

Accounts Receivable

• Prepare and issue customer invoices in QuickBooks Online and/or Buildertrend• Ensure billing aligns with contracts, change orders, and job progress• Apply customer payments accurately and timely• Monitor AR aging and follow up on past-due balances• Maintain organized billing and payment records

General Accounting

• Support accurate job costing and cost code reporting• Perform bank and account reconciliations• Assist with month-end close and reporting• Maintain organized digital accounting files

Requirements

• 2+ years of construction accounting experience• Strong Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable knowledge• QuickBooks Online experience a plus• Understanding of job costing and construction workflows• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

• Buildertrend experience• Familiarity with lien releases and retainage• Multi-entity or multi-location accounting experience

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
