A DAY IN THE LIFE - Field Lead (4+ Years Experience)

Our Project Archeologist (Regular Part-Time) position is field based and will include work throughout Northern California. Shifts are assigned based on business demand, and hours may vary from week to week with no guaranteed minimum.

As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities, including:

Serve as a field lead for pedestrian survey, construction monitoring, and testing, including collection of field data, digital photography, artifact identification, GPS data collection, and mapping.

Perform construction monitoring.

Coordinate with construction crews on monitoring needs and schedule.

Prepare environmental compliance documents, permits, plans, and procedures

Leverage knowledge of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas

Interact with customers and clients

Work effectively, both independently and in a team setting

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Field Lead: At least four (4) years of experience in archaeology at increasing levels of responsibility, such as technician, crew chief, assistant field director, and field director, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity. At least two (2) years of experience in California with a range of field tasks including archaeological survey, construction monitoring, and site recording.

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline.

Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to perform survey and monitoring projects.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to work well with others as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work with construction crews and Tribal representatives.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and ability to use related computer systems and software.

Experience with GPS equipment and ESRI (GIS) mobile software such as Field Maps, Survey 123, or similar software program is required.

Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation, with travel often required off of paved roads.

Familiarity with cultural resource law and regulations is preferred.

Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.

Organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to travel as needed throughout Northern California, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
