The Project Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the site, supervising construction work, ensuring it meets the required standards, and liaising between contractors, subcontractors, and the project management team. You will be expected to bring extensive technical expertise to the site and take a leading role in ensuring successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Supervision & Management:
- Oversee day-to-day site activities and operations to ensure that the project is on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate, supervise, and manage site labor force, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure construction work adheres to approved drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor the progress and quality of work.
- Resolve any site issues or conflicts that arise promptly and efficiently.
- Health & Safety:
- Enforce safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety audits and toolbox talks to promote health and safety standards on-site.
- Identify potential hazards and ensure the necessary precautions are in place to mitigate risks.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all work meets the required quality standards and complies with legal and client requirements.
- Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, and quality control documentation.
- Perform quality inspections and assist in preparing final documentation and handover packages.
- Technical Support & Problem-Solving:
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, foremen, and site teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during construction.
- Ensure that materials used are of the correct quality and standard, coordinating with suppliers as needed.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, progress reports, and daily logs.
- Review and monitor the construction schedule, identifying any delays or issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Liaise with the Project Manager to provide regular updates on progress and potential issues.
- Client Liaison:
- Maintain communication with the client, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Attend meetings with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to review project progress and address any concerns.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in construction or civil engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior engineering role.
- Proven experience managing large-scale construction projects from conception to completion.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal requirements.
- Proficient in using project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Certifications (optional but preferred):
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification.
- Health and Safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
- Personal Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- High levels of organization and time management skills.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time role based on-site.
- May require working evenings, weekends, or overtime to meet project deadlines.
- Physical presence at the site is crucial, with some office-based tasks required for reporting and coordination.
