Nature of Work
Within Operations and Field Operations, a Project Engineer supports and assists the project team (including Project Manager, Superintendent, QC Managers, and more) in assuring timely project completion.

Within Estimating, a Project Engineer supports and assists the estimating team in preparing timely and accurate budgets and bid proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A Project Engineer supporting the Operations or Field Operations departments may have responsibility for the following:

  • Creates project management documentation that may include schedules, material purchases, cost management, progress charts, RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, jobsite controls, tracking reports, etc.

  • As required, conducts workplace inspections assessing quantity and specification/quality, percent completion by subcontractors, and safety compliance.
  • Develops operations and maintenance manuals and as builts, as required.

  • Exercises initiative or, as directed, performs additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.

  • Coordinates and communicates with owners, vendors, crews, subcontractors, architects, and suppliers to facilitate timely project completion.

In addition to the above, a Project Engineer supporting the Estimating department may have responsibility for the following:

  • Participates in project approach plan and proposal kickoff meetings as requested.
  • Carries out estimating assignments in accordance with estimating project approach.
  • Assists with review of proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Follows established processes and best practices in carrying out estimating assignments.
  • Solicits subcontractor and supplier bids and interfaces with their representatives in order to receive response bids prior to bid letting.
  • Establishes, maintains, and enhances business relationships with valued trade partners.
  • Utilizes and supports subcontractor prequalification program.
  • Maintains and improves subcontractor database through best practices for entering and updating subcontractor information.
  • Performs accurate, timely, and well-organized quantity takeoffs as assigned.
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for bidding and budgeting purposes including self-performed work; selecting subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness and cost realism.
  • Scopes and tabulates subcontractor and supplier bids for conformance with bid documents to aid in determining the value of the work.
  • Utilizes estimating software and confirms to established policies and procedures.
  • Exercises initiative or, as directed, performs additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Ability to collaborate with and function well within a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs for project management / estimating / reporting purposes.

Education

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university or equivalent experience.


Experience

  • 1+ year or more of related work experience preferred.
  • Responsible for own work only; will have no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands for this position are moderate. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending or carrying of items (25-50 pounds) such as plan documents, papers, books, parts, etc. There may be times of physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing or similar activities. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Requires a good ability to see, hear, and speak


Work Environment

  • Standard project site environment that may include machinery, parts and chemicals. May require protective gear.
