Job Summary:
The Project Engineer in construction and project execution is responsible for overseeing the technical and logistical aspects of construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with safety and quality standards. The role involves close coordination with construction teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless project execution. The Project Engineer will work alongside project managers and other engineers to maintain project schedules, resolve technical issues, and monitor the progress of construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construction Project Planning and Coordination:
- Assist in the development of comprehensive construction project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate and oversee daily construction activities, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Ensure proper allocation and scheduling of resources, materials, and labor on-site.
- Monitor and adjust project plans as needed to address issues or delays.
- Site and Technical Oversight:
- Ensure the technical execution of construction activities aligns with engineering specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform site inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
- Support the resolution of technical issues on-site, offering solutions to maintain project progress.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Serve as a liaison between the project team, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth communication.
- Provide regular updates to senior management and clients on project status, including potential risks or delays.
- Collaborate with other engineers, construction teams, and contractors to ensure all aspects of the construction process are integrated effectively.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Monitor and track project costs, ensuring that construction is completed within the approved budget.
- Assist in the procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services while managing costs and timelines.
- Coordinate the delivery and inventory of materials to ensure they are available when needed and avoid project delays.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to quality control procedures, ensuring that construction work meets or exceeds industry standards.
- Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company standards.
- Implement safety protocols on-site to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Risk Management and Problem Solving:
- Proactively identify and mitigate construction risks such as design errors, delays, and safety hazards.
- Provide technical solutions and troubleshooting expertise to address challenges encountered during construction.
- Assess and resolve conflicts or issues that arise between teams or contractors to prevent delays or disputes.
- Project Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed project documentation, including design plans, construction schedules, progress reports, and safety records.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting the progress, challenges, and key milestones of the project.
- Ensure proper filing and management of all necessary paperwork to comply with legal and contractual obligations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and processes.
- Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, Microsoft Project).
- In-depth understanding of building codes, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage resources and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.
