Job Description – Project Engineer (Project Control Lead)
Job Title: Project Engineer
Role Type: Technical Leadership & Project Control
Reports To: Director Operations
Industry: High-End Fit-Out & Construction
Location: Dubai / UAE
Job Responsibilities:
We are seeking an exceptional Project Engineer who operates as the single technical and execution authority on high-end fit-out and construction projects.
This role requires a professional who sees problems before they happen, understands execution deeply, controls planning and cost impacts, and has the confidence and experience to lead the project back on track when something goes wrong — without dependency on others.
The ideal candidate combines site instinct, engineering depth, commercial awareness, and project foresight.
1) Execution Leadership & Site Control
- Take full ownership of site execution from mobilization to handover.
- Lead daily site activities, sequencing, and work-front planning.
- Ensure works are executed strictly as per approved drawings, samples, and specifications.
- Detect execution risks early and implement corrective actions before delays or rework occur.
- Maintain absolute control of quality, workmanship, and finishing standards.
- Enforce discipline, safety, and professionalism across site teams and subcontractors.
2) Technical Authority & Engineering Oversight
- Fully review and understand all IFC drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Identify clashes, inconsistencies, missing details, and impractical designs before execution.
- Coordinate and resolve technical issues between architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines.
- Provide buildable solutions and value engineering proposals when required.
- Ensure correct execution methods for complex and premium finishes.
3) Design, Consultant & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technical interface with consultants and design teams.
- Challenge consultants professionally where drawings, details, or specifications are incorrect or impractical.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, mock-ups, and approvals efficiently.
- Ensure consultant decisions are clear, documented, and executable on site.
- Protect the project from design-driven delays or errors.
4) Planning, Lookahead & Risk Management
- Develop, own, and maintain the detailed project program (Gantt chart) from project kick-off through completion, including all design, procurement, fabrication, and installation activities.
- Define activity sequencing, dependencies, and critical path, ensuring the program reflects realistic execution logic and resource availability.
- Prepare and manage short-term execution plans (2-week / 4-week lookahead) aligned with the master program to ensure smooth site progress.
- Continuously monitor progress against the baseline program, identifying deviations early and implementing corrective actions to protect project milestones.
- Identify sequencing conflicts, resource constraints, and interface risks across trades, vendors, and site teams before they impact the schedule.
- Drive coordination between design, procurement, factory, and site teams to ensure the project program remains achievable.
- Lead program review meetings with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure alignment with execution priorities.
- Proactively escalate risks with clear mitigation strategies, recovery plans, and schedule adjustments — taking ownership of solutions.
5) Commercial Awareness & Cost Control
- Understand BOQs, pricing logic, labour productivity, and material cost structures.
- Review subcontractor rates, quotations, and variations critically.
- Identify cost risks arising from design changes, execution methods, or sequencing.
- Support variation claims with technical and execution-based justification.
- Eliminate waste, rework, and inefficient execution without compromising quality.
6) Quality, Inspections & Handover Control
- Ensure quality benchmarks are achieved from first fix to final finishes.
- Control inspections, mock-ups, and consultant approvals.
- Drive snag reduction throughout execution, not only at handover stage.
- Lead final inspections and ensure smooth handover and close-out documentation.
7) Reporting, Control & Accountability
- Prepare, monitor, and update project schedules in Wrike (Project Management Software), aligning manpower, subcontractors, and materials with project timelines.
- Implement and control the Work Inspection Report (WIR) system — issue, inspect, and sign off on all pre- and post-WIRs; maintain WIR logs and ensure no work begins without prior approval.
- Provide clear, honest, and solution-driven reports to management.
- Maintain full visibility of progress, risks, costs, and technical issues.
- Take ownership of problems and drive them to closure — not delegate blame.
- Act as the project’s single point of technical truth.
