Role Overview


Port Marine is seeking a Project Engineer – Ship Repair with a strong background in ship repair, surveys, and quality assurance.


This role will involve supporting dry dockings as well as a wide range of repair and inspection assignments, including condition surveys, riding crew repairs, shop inspections, and supervision of steel, paint, and mechanical work.


The successful candidate will support senior management and represent Port Marine at shipyards, contractor shops, onboard vessels, and at anchorage, ensuring projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget. When not deployed, the Project Engineer will contribute to technical documentation, vendor coordination, and business development efforts.


Key Responsibilities


1. On-Site / Project Assignments


Represent Port Marine during:

Vessel dry dockings and reactivations

Condition and class surveys (ABS, LR, DNV, USCG, etc.)

Shop quality inspections (steel fabrication, coatings, machinery overhauls)

Floating and riding repairs alongside, at sea, or at anchorage

Port engineering support roles

Supervisory oversight in steel, paint, or mechanical trades

Oversee schedules, costs, and quality standards.

Coordinate with shipyards, subcontractors, vendors, and classification societies.

Prepare daily progress reports and assist in risk management.


2. Office / Remote Support


Draft and review RFQs, evaluate vendor proposals, and prepare procurement recommendations.

Support cost tracking and project documentation.

Assist in preparing project reports and lessons learned.

Provide technical and project coordination support.

Actively identify and pursue new project opportunities.

Support business development and marketing activities to expand Port Marine’s visibility and client network.


Requirements


Minimum 2 years’ experience in ship repair, surveys, or marine technical supervision.

Background in naval architecture, marine engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Knowledge of shipyard operations, steel renewal, coatings, and machinery systems.

Familiarity with class/regulatory survey requirements.

Fluent English is a must (both written and spoken).

Active U.S. B1 Visa is required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure in demanding shipyard and project environments.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Business mindset with ability to support marketing and bring in new projects.

Minimum 50% travel required (domestic and international assignments may range from weeks to several months).


Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 20 kg and climb ladders.

Work in confined spaces, at height, and in noisy or potentially hazardous environments.
