Project Manager - Construction, Civil, Public Works and Private



Project Manager -Salaried,  OT-Exempt

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager oversees private, federal, state, and public works projects, managing risk related to cost, schedule, safety, contract compliance, and subcontractor performance. This role ensures adherence to all contractual and regulatory requirements, including public works and prevailing wage laws, while coordinating with clients, agencies, field leadership, and internal departments. The Project Manager is responsible for protecting and advancing the interests of Interwest Construction, Inc. in all project matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with on-site staff while contributing to and promoting positive project morale
  • Possess a thorough understanding and knowledge of the general contract, each subcontract, the contract drawings, specifications, bid documents, and addend
  • Identify and examine contract drawings, specifications and addenda for design deficiencies, language discrepancies, impractical details, and insufficient information
  • Develop a CPM Project Schedule with the input and assistance of the Project Superintendent, Project Engineer, and key Subcontractor
  • Ensure and verify project submittals are transmitted and approved prior to the commencement of construction activities
  • Obtain required project permits as outlined in project documents
  • Accurately develop monthly Pay Applications to the client in a timely manner as required by the project documents
  • Review and approve subcontractor and supplier invoices weekly
  • Develop change order proposals in a detailed manner
  • Participate and engage in Project Review Meetings with the Senior Project Manager and Accounting by providing updates on critical issues, billing updates, forecasts, and safety
  • Assist in the development and growth of Project Engineers
  • Assist in performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Ensure project close-out is being executed per project specifications
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Education & Experience:
  • The ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • 5 years construction experience in management
  • 3 years of experience on civil construction projects or 5 years of experience in other types of construction projects
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Outlook email.
  • Experience with Heavy Job and Heavy Bid a plus
  • CESCL training/certification preferred
  • First Aid and CPR training/certification preferred
Work Environment:

This position operates in both a professional office environment and active construction sites with varying conditions. The role routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, copiers, and filing systems. Physical requirements include the ability to lift files and materials, open filing cabinets, and bend, walk, or stand for extended periods as necessary.

When on construction sites, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, elevated noise levels, heavy equipment operations, dust, and other construction-related hazards. Compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations and company safety policies is required. The employee must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and other site-specific protective gear.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate equipment; reach with hands and arms; and communicate effectively by talking and hearing. The employee frequently sits for extended periods and is also required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform fine motor tasks such as keyboarding.

The position requires the ability to climb ladders, navigate scaffolding, traverse uneven terrain, and access elevated or below-grade areas of active construction sites. The employee must be able to safely tour and inspect construction work in progress.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must be able to access and navigate all areas of active construction sites in various weather conditions. This position may require working more than 40 hours per week, including evenings or weekends, as necessary to fulfill essential job duties.
