Under general supervision, the Project Manager I is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing agile technology projects that support the Department of Environmental Services’ strategic and operational priorities. This role oversees the delivery of small- to medium-sized initiatives, as well as components of larger projects, ensuring effective coordination of resources, stakeholders, and project activities.
The Project Manager I ensures projects are delivered in alignment with established governance standards, project management methodologies, and organizational objectives from initiation through closeout. The role also promotes transparency, accountability, and successful project outcomes across the Office of Technology.
This position serves as an entry-level project management opportunity for professionals seeking to strengthen agile delivery skills, gain hands-on experience, and grow into progressively broader project leadership responsibilities.
Project Planning & Agile Delivery:
Support planning and execution of technology projects using agile and standard project management practices. Assist with schedules, sprints, milestones, and team coordination to ensure timely, business-aligned delivery.
Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration:
Coordinate with project teams and stakeholders to maintain alignment. Facilitate meetings, agile ceremonies, and follow-ups to support clear communication and accountability.
Tracking, Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain project documentation, status reports, and dashboards. Track progress against scope, schedule, and resources to support transparency and informed decisions.
Risk & Issue Management:
Identify and monitor risks, issues, and dependencies. Escalate concerns and support mitigation efforts to protect project outcomes.
Governance & Coordination:
Ensure adherence to project standards and assist with vendor and cross-functional coordination to support successful delivery.
Continuous Improvement:
Contribute to improving processes and build project management skills through hands-on experience and development opportunities.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Occasional in-state travel and overnight stays may be required.
1 – 2 years of experience supporting or leading agile digital technology projects from initiation through closeout.
Experience with project management tools, including Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI) and Jira.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
Must be physically able to sit for long periods of time.
