Prototype Lab Technician Internship

We are currently in search of a Prototype Lab Technician Internship to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA).

The prototype lab technician internship will support all prototype lab activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of all prototype builds
  • Work effectively with lab staff to ensure timely and effective completion of builds
  • Perform basic electrical circuit troubleshooting
  • Conduct functionality testing for all prototype modules
  • Create test and quality reports and documentation
  • Help build test boxes and wire harnesses correctly and accurately
  • Help build fixtures and harnesses for flashing software
  • Have basic working knowledge with hand assembly and hand crimping tools
  • Have basic ability to use wire strippers, pneumatic crimpers, soldering irons, and soldering pots effectively
  • Learn to produce quality parts per processing work instructions
  • Have the ability to measure work using rules, tape measures and/or calipers
  • Basic ability to read and understand engineering specs, drawings and layout work
  • Learn the Marquardt PEP Process and how it applies to prototype process
  • Learn to use Agile PLM and SAP
  • Have basic knowledge in using electrical test equipment and support testing for project builds.


Required Qualifications for this role include:

  • Currently enrolled and working towards associate or bachelor's degree
  • Some experience reading technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook required)
  • Ability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future (US Citizen or Resident)
  • Ability to learn new soldering techniques
  • Ability to use test equipment
  • Basic ability to solder PCBs for engineering testing / development
  • Basic ability to read and understand electronic schematics
  • Ability to utilize Oscilloscope, Multimeter, power supply, and Function Generator.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally stand and walk
  • Ability to use close vision, color vision, and depth perception for extended periods
