Public Safety Dispatcher

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dispatcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating the movement of personnel and resources, ensuring efficient communication between various departments, and providing critical support in emergency situations. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to analyze information quickly, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage incoming calls and dispatch requests to appropriate personnel or resources.
  • Transcribe messages accurately and relay information in a timely manner.
  • Utilize GPS technology to track and direct vehicles or personnel as needed.
  • Maintain clear communication with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
  • Analyze data related to dispatch operations to improve efficiency and response times.
  • Negotiate with service providers or clients to resolve issues or adjust schedules as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Either I

Six months of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Public Safety Operator, California Highway Patrol.

Or II

One year of experience in dispatching work involving the operation of radio communications equipment; or as an operator of a telephone switchboard or console.

Or III

Two years of experience involving a substantial amount of telephone contact or three years of direct contact with the public or other employees. Such experience must involve the responsibility to perform numerous tasks simultaneously or progressively responsible experience in a field requiring decision-making ability and the exercise of judgment. (Thirty semester or 45 quarter units of college level courses may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)

Or IV

Successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college level courses. (Persons who will complete the required units during the current semester/quarter will be admitted to the examination, but they must produce evidence of successful completion of the units before they may be considered eligible for appointment.)

Or V

Successful completion of the POST Certified Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course and six months of experience involving a substantial amount of direct and/or telephone public contact.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • Incumbents currently in the classification who are eligible to transfer shall upload a completed and signed CHP 220N, Request for Transfer-Nonuniformed, form to this job control. The most senior same class transfer applicant who responds by the final filing date shall be selected.   • This position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed designated on the Classification Specifications (link available in the minimum requirements section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired.   • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified before appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review. Applicants with foreign transcript(s)/degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript/degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

Pay: $5,307.00 - $7,306.00 per month
