The Public Works Supervisor oversees daily operations, personnel, and projects within the Public Works Department. This position performs daily operational tasks and provides direct supervision of public works staff. The role ensures the effective maintenance, repair, and improvement of township roads, facilities, parks, cemeteries, stormwater systems, and public infrastructure. The Supervisor provides hands‑on leadership, coordinates work crews, manages equipment and materials, and ensures compliance with safety standards, township policies, and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Administration
- Plan, schedule, and oversee daily work assignments for public works staff and seasonal employees.
- Provide on‑site supervision, training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating department personnel.
- Maintain accurate records, including work orders, material usage, equipment logs, and project documentation.
- Prepare reports for Township Trustees, Fiscal Officer, or Administrator as required.
- Participate in budget planning, cost tracking, and procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform daily public works operations while supervising and directing staff in the field.
Operations & Project Management
- Coordinate and oversee road maintenance activities such as patching, paving support, berming, ditching, culvert installation, and stormwater system upkeep.
- Manage snow and ice control operations, including route planning, staffing, and emergency response.
- Oversee maintenance of township properties, parks, cemeteries, buildings, and rights‑of‑way.
- Ensure proper traffic control and safety measures during roadwork and public projects.
- Assist with planning and executing capital improvement projects and long‑term infrastructure needs.
Equipment & Facility Oversight
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and repair of department vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools.
- Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate major repairs with mechanics or vendors.
- Monitor inventory of materials such as salt, stone, culverts, signage, and fuel.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe township facilities, garages, and storage areas.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct safety meetings, training sessions, and equipment operation instruction.
- Respond to emergencies, weather events, accidents, and infrastructure failures as needed.
- Serve as a liaison with contractors, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
Community & Interdepartmental Relations
- Communicate professionally with residents regarding service requests, concerns, and township projects.
- Coordinate with township leadership, emergency services, and other agencies during events or emergencies.
- Represent the Public Works Department at meetings when requested.

Pay: $33.00 - $43.00 per hour
