Job Summary and Qualifications

Demonstrates sound knowledge and proficiency in the treatment of respiratory disorders for both inpatient and outpatient populations. Provides safe, effective, and appropriate respiratory care in a timely and accurate manner across various clinical settings.


Duties and Responsibilities

Pulmonary Diagnostic Testing

Performs the following pulmonary function testing procedures in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies:

  • Complete Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), including DLCO and Methacholine challenge studies

Responsibilities include:

  • Performs equipment calibration prior to initiation of all testing procedures.
  • Verifies physician orders before performing procedures.
  • Verifies patient identification prior to testing.
  • Performs tests according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures complete and accurate test results are available for pulmonologist interpretation.
  • Reports any problems related to job performance promptly and directly to the supervisor.
  • Notifies Biomed/Clinical Engineering of equipment malfunctions or concerns.
  • Changes mouthpieces and filters between patients to maintain infection control standards.
  • Charges and documents all procedures accurately and appropriately.

Clinical and Emergency Responsibilities

  • Responds to all CRT’s and support team as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform CPR and advanced life support on neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate.
  • Administers medications and oxygen therapy in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies and procedures.

Position Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Current Florida Respiratory Therapy License (required)
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or NRP as applicable
    • PEARS (required within 90 days of hire, if applicable)

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of Respiratory Therapy experience
  • Two (2) years of Respiratory Therapy experience preferred
  • (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner


What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
  • Associate Degree
