Position – Purchase Head

Competency required: Master’s Degree

Experience: 8 – 10 Years

Gender: Male

Location: Nagpur

Salary: 8 – 10 LPA

The Purchase Head is responsible for leading the procurement function—ensuring the company obtains goods, services, and raw materials at the right price, quality, quantity, and time, while managing supplier relationships, controlling costs, and supporting business objectives. They typically report to a senior Executive (COO / CFO / Director) and lead a team of buyers / procurement professionals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Planning

* Develop and implement procurement strategies consistent with the overall business goals.

* Forecast material/service needs, anticipate market trends (price, supply) and adjust strategy accordingly.

* Define procurement policies, and standard procedures: e.g. vendor selection, contract management, purchase order standards.

2. Cost & Value Management

* Negotiate contracts, pricing, delivery terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings without compromising quality.

* Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process efficiencies, and value engineering.

* Monitor procurement spend vs budget; oversee financial aspects related to procurement.

3. Supplier / Vendor Management

* Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers/vendors; manage relationships to ensure reliability, quality, delivery performance.

* Monitor supplier performance via metrics and KPIs (quality, timeliness, cost, service). Initiate improvements or corrective actions when necessary.

* Develop a robust vendor base, including local & global suppliers depending on the sourcing strategy.

4. Inventory & Materials Management

* Optimize inventory levels to ensure availability but avoid excess / overstock / stockouts.

* Coordinate with production / operations / quality / sales teams to forecast demand, plan supply accordingly.

5. Team Leadership & Organization

* Lead, mentor and develop the procurement / purchasing team. Set KPIs, perform performance reviews, ensure skill development.

* Define roles & responsibilities within the team; ensure good internal communication and coordination.

6. Process, Systems & Continuous Improvement

* Establish and improve procurement processes, procedures, tools (ERP, MIS dashboards, supplier evaluation systems).

* Drive initiatives for operational excellence, cost savings, efficiency (e.g. kaizen, Lean, etc.).

7. Risk Management & Compliance

* Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, internal policies (import / tax / quality / safety).

* Assess supply chain risks (single supplier, geopolitical, quality, raw material price volatility) and prepare contingency plans.

8. Stakeholder Management and Reporting

* Liaise with other departments (production, design, finance, quality, R&D, sales) to ensure procurement is aligned with their needs.

* Report procurement performance (cost savings, supplier performance, inventory metrics, risk status) to senior leadership. Prepare forecasts, budgets, etc.

9. Global Sourcing & Strategic Projects

* If the company sources globally, manage global sourcing: import regulations, currency risk, lead times, logistics.

* Lead or participate in strategic procurement projects: new product launch, vendor consolidation, indigenization, sustainability sourcing, etc.

Skills / Qualifications

* Significant experience in procurement / purchasing, possibly across multiple industries.

* Strong negotiation skills and ability to deal with contracts.

* Good commercial & financial acumen: understanding cost structures, forecasting, budgets.

* Analytical skills: market / supplier analysis, tracking metrics, data-driven decision making.

* Leadership, people management, ability to build and motivate teams.

* Familiarity with procurement tools / ERP / MIS / inventory management systems.

* Strong communication, stakeholder management, conflict resolution.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹800,000.00 - ₹1,000,000.00 per year
