The Purchasing Officer is responsible for procuring raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and other supplies required for food production. The role ensures cost efficiency, quality compliance, timely availability, and adherence to food safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase food ingredients, raw materials, packaging, and consumables
- Source, evaluate, and manage suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules
- Ensure all materials meet food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with production, quality, and warehouse teams to meet operational needs
- Monitor inventory levels and plan purchases to avoid shortages or excess stock
- Prepare purchase orders and maintain procurement records
- Track deliveries and resolve issues related to quality, quantity, or delays
- Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and cost fluctuations
- Ensure compliance with company policies and food industry standards (HACCP, ISO, etc.)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field
- Experience as a Purchasing Officer or similar role in the food industry
- Knowledge of food safety standards and supplier compliance
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities
Preferred Skills
- Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG sector
- Understanding of local and international food regulations
- Cost control and strategic sourcing experience
