Purchasing Specialist

Duties:

  • Conduct research to identify potential vendors, evaluate findings, and make independent decisions on procurement matters to reduce cost impact and improve delivery.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with internal department, vendors and suppliers.
  • Initiate RFQ and RFP as necessary and obtain comparative price quotes.
  • Negotiate contracts and place purchase orders for all materials requirement at best prices and terms of purchase.
  • Negotiate with vendors the handling of late deliveries of products and materials, shortages, rejected receipts, equipment deliveries, and contracting services.
  • Interface with other departments to determine their purchasing needs or problems, including identifying costs for budgeting purposes and solutions to resolve problems.
  • Review materials requirements, prepare purchase orders through the ERP system, verifying terms and specifications.
  • Schedule deliveries on large or blanket purchase orders ensuring adequate inventory availability while reducing cash outlay.
  • Maintain records of all transactions, vendor quotes, negotiations, contracts, purchase orders, receipts, and resolutions.
  • Review vendor score card and identify alternate sources, as necessary.
  • Authorize payments for settled discrepant deliveries.
  • Serve as a backup in the department.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.


Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of and background in MRP, supply chain, production management, and project engineering required.
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and highly organized self-starter.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
