We are looking for an experienced Buyer with expertise in lumber including engineered lumber. This position will allow you to dive into supplier research, negotiation contracts and build strong strategic relationships to deliver top value while maintaining Guerdon quality.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers through market research, referrals, and networking, assessing price, quality, reliability, delivery performance, and market trends.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules; draft, review, and manage supplier contracts in collaboration with legal and finance to ensure policy and regulatory compliance.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, addressing issues promptly and conducting regular performance reviews to ensure quality, reliability, and service levels.
- Analyze project requirements and blueprints to determine material specifications, quantities, lead times, and vendor quotes.
- Develop material stocking and purchasing schedules aligned with inventory levels, production runs, and demand forecasts.
- Generate and process purchase orders, coordinating with internal teams to confirm specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements.
- Track order fulfillment and shipments, ensuring accurate, timely delivery and resolving discrepancies or delays.
- At project completion, assess remaining materials for field service needs, return to vendors, or disposition, and complete the disposition process in a timely manner.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field or the combination of education and experience to perform the duties of the position.
- Three (3) years’ experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Knowledge and experience in purchasing lumber and engineered lumber items.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with procurement software or ERP systems.
- Must have reliable transportation and stellar attendance with the ability to work overtime when required to meet project deadlines.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Learning agility to master new software
- Ability to work on-site during regular business hours of 8-5 M-F
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and reach, stoop kneel.
- Light to moderately lifting is required.
- Moderate noise (i.e., business offices with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
- Ability to work in shared space.
