Position Overview

The QA/QC Diesel System Specialist – Tanks, Piping & Controls (Mechanical) is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality, safety, compliance, and proper installation of all diesel mechanical systems within project external areas. This includes diesel storage tanks, day tanks, fuel piping networks, transfer systems, control interfaces, and integration with generators or related mechanical systems.

The role is QA/QC-focused, requiring hands-on verification, inspection, documentation, and technical oversight to ensure systems meet project specifications, industry standards, and HSE requirements.

This position requires an immediate start, and the candidate must hold a relevant engineering degree (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Assurance & Quality Control: Conduct detailed inspections and QA/QC checks for diesel mechanical systems, including:

  • Diesel storage tanks (main tanks, day tanks)
  • Underground/aboveground fuel lines and piping
  • Transfer pumps, strainers, valves, and controls
  • Fuel filtration systems
  • Pressure testing and leak testing
  • Fuel tank venting systems and spill containment
  • Verify all installations comply with:
  • Project mechanical specifications
  • Authority requirements (e.g., Civil Defense, local municipality)
  • International standards (NFPA, API, ASME, etc.)

Ensure all diesel system components are installed correctly before mechanical completion.

2. Installation Review & Site Coordination

Monitor site activities to ensure correct sequence, workmanship, and compliance.

Coordinate closely with electrical and control teams for:

  • Generator interfaces
  • Control panel connections
  • Fuel monitoring sensors (level, flow, leak detection)
  • Emergency shutdown systems

Work with subcontractors and main contractors to resolve installation issues on-site.

3. Testing & Commissioning Support

Ensure pre-commissioning activities are performed properly, such as:

  • Hydrostatic testing of diesel lines
  • Functional testing of pumps and valves
  • Calibration verification of monitoring equipment
  • Support commissioning teams in preparing systems for energization and operation.

4. Documentation & Reporting

Prepare and maintain:

  • Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Method statements verification
  • Material inspections (MIRs) & work inspections (WIRs)
  • Non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective action follow-ups
  • QA/QC logs, checklists, and progress reports
  • Ensure all diesel system documentation is complete and accurate for final project handover.

5. Safety & Compliance

Ensure all diesel system works meet UAE HSE and fire-safety requirements. Verify proper installation of:

  • Fire-rated enclosures
  • Spill control systems
  • Fuel system grounding and bonding
  • Venting and emergency venting
  • Promote strong safety practices and immediately address unsafe activities.

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (strict requirement).
  • Immediate availability to join the project.

Technical Experience

  • Minimum 3–7 years of experience in diesel systems, fuel storage, piping, or mechanical QA/QC roles.

Strong knowledge of:

  • Diesel storage tank systems
  • Fuel piping networks
  • Controls and sensors in fuel handling
  • Mechanical QA/QC procedures and documentation
  • Experience in large-scale construction or MEP projects in the GCC is preferred.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to interpret drawings (MEP/IFC/shop drawings).
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical codes and standards (NFPA 30, API 650, ASME B31.3, etc.).
  • Ability to identify issues proactively and propose practical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced site environments.

Work Environment

  • Primarily site-based across project external works (fuel tanks areas, generator yards, MEP rooms).
  • Hands-on inspections in mechanical and mixed-discipline areas.
  • Requires flexibility and readiness to respond to site conditions and urgent QA/QC matters.

Summary

This role is critical to ensuring the safe and compliant delivery of diesel mechanical systems. It requires a technically strong Mechanical Engineer who is ready to join immediately, capable of independently managing QA/QC duties, and confident in inspecting tanks, piping works, controls, and fuel system interfaces.
