Job Summary
The QA/QC professional is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust Quality Management System to ensure all ship repair, activation, and engineering activities are executed in compliance with applicable standards, classification society rules, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
The role ensures quality is embedded across planning, execution, inspection, and delivery stages, with a strong focus on risk management, process improvement, and preventive quality practices. Acting as an independent authority on quality matters, the position supports operational teams while promoting a quality-driven culture across the yard to minimize rework, enhance compliance, and ensure consistent project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Management System (QMS) & Governance
- Ensure full alignment between operational practices and the approved Quality Manual and Quality Management System (QMS).
- Maintain, implement, and continuously improve the QMS in line with ISO standards, classification society rules, regulatory, and client requirements.
- Plan, lead, and participate in internal and external audits, including class, client, and regulatory audits.
- Ensure effective document control, traceability, and retention of all quality records.
2. Quality Planning, Inspection & Control
- Develop, review, and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, quality checklists, and inspection procedures.
- Ensure inspections and tests are conducted at all required stages of work.
- Monitor workmanship quality across mechanical, fabrication, welding, electrical, blasting, painting, coating, NDT, dimensional control, and installation activities.
- Coordinate and support inspections with classification society surveyors and client representatives.
3. Compliance, Risk & Material Control
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, class rules (e.g., LR, DNV, ABS), statutory requirements, and project specifications.
- Identify, assess, and manage quality and operational risks, maintaining a risk and opportunity register aligned with project execution.
- Ensure full material traceability, including verification of material certificates, test reports, welding consumables, and vendor documentation.
4. Non-Conformance, Corrective & Preventive Actions
- Identify non-conformities and raise NCRs where applicable.
- Lead root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and verified.
- Monitor quality trends and recurring issues to prevent systemic failures and reduce cost of poor quality and rework.
5. Process Improvement & Performance Monitoring
- Develop and optimize quality and inspection processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Establish and monitor quality KPIs aligned with business and project objectives.
- Drive preventive quality strategies, shifting focus from reactive inspection to proactive quality assurance.
6. Operational Integration & Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, Production, Engineering, Procurement, and subcontractors on all quality-related matters.
- Ensure quality requirements are integrated into planning, execution, and procurement processes.
- Support project teams with technical quality guidance to ensure specifications and standards are met.
7. Leadership, Training & Quality Culture
- Promote a strong, quality-driven culture across the yard and project teams.
- Train supervisors, inspectors, and production personnel on quality awareness, procedures, and best practices.
- Act independently and uphold quality standards under operational and schedule pressure.
