Position Summary
The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting manufactured components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. Working within a machine shop environment, this role supports product quality, traceability, and continuous improvement by performing inspections, documenting results, and identifying non‑conformances.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in‑process, and final inspections of machined parts and assemblies
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and quality requirements
- Inspect components using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators)
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and workmanship
- Complete inspection reports, quality records, and traceability documentation accurately
- Identify, document, and report non‑conforming materials or products
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes as required
- Communicate to the supervisor all non conformities. The final decision to scrap a part must be made at the appropriate supervisory level.
- All tools, measuring instruments, and measuring equipment need to be kept in perfect working order and must be calibrated against a standard. If you have any reason to believe that any of the above mentioned measuring devices is out of tolerance, stop what you are doing and inform your supervisor immediately.
- You are responsible for tracking Outside Service PO’s to be sure the parts get back from the service company and the cost gets on the job.
- You are responsible for knowing the customer specifications or knowing where to find the customer specifications and the correct marking of items to be shipped and to ensure all required documents are shipped with the part as well as satisfy the general requirements of packaging and shipping responsibilities including, but not limited to, palletizing, banding, wrapping, protecting and loading parts ready for shipment.
- You are responsible for stenciling parts as specified.
- You are responsible for knowing where our QC Manual is kept and the sections that deal with aspects of your job. You must be able to answer auditor’s questions as to procedure and specifications for all our customers. If you have any questions at any time ask your supervisor.
- You are responsible for knowing API and ISO specifications for all departments or have knowledge as to where to find the answers if you don’t know.
- All delivery tickets must be completed and the packet sent to the respective supervisor as soon as completed so we can begin the pricing and billing cycle.
- All sequences on the router need to have an initial by the person completing that section. Any sequences not initialed needs to be brought to the attention of the appropriate supervisor for action.
- Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to production, engineering, and quality teams
- Ensure compliance with internal quality management systems and applicable standards
- Assist with calibration checks and verification of measuring equipment, as applicable
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and occupational health and safety regulations
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of dimensional inspection methods and tools
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Basic computer skills for recording inspection results
Preferred:
- Technical training or post‑secondary education in quality, manufacturing, or machining
- Experience inspecting machined components to tight tolerances
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, API, or customer‑specific requirements
- Experience with CMM inspection or advanced measurement tools
