JOB TITLE:
Quantity Surveyor (QS)
Job Summary
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for cost estimation, budgeting, contract administration, and financial control of construction projects. The role ensures that projects are completed within budget and comply with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities (BOQ) for construction projects.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
- Conduct cost planning and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
2. Tendering & Procurement
- Prepare tender documents and bid analysis.
- Evaluate contractor quotations and recommend suitable vendors.
- Assist in procurement of materials and subcontractors.
3. Contract Administration
- Review and administer construction contracts.
- Monitor compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
- Manage variations, claims, and change orders.
4. Cost Control & Financial Reporting
- Track project expenditures and ensure cost control.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and cash flow forecasts.
- Identify potential cost overruns and recommend corrective actions.
5. Measurement & Valuation
- Measure quantities from drawings and site measurements.
- Prepare interim valuations and payment certificates.
- Verify contractor invoices and progress claims.
6. Risk Management
- Identify financial risks related to construction activities.
- Evaluate contract claims and dispute issues.
- Provide solutions to minimize financial exposure.
7. Site Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
- Attend site meetings and monitor project progress.
- Ensure works are carried out according to the agreed scope and budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Professional certifications (preferred):
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
- Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
