Key Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor:

  • Cost Estimation and Management:QS professionals are responsible for estimating the costs of materials, labor, and other resources needed for a project. They also monitor and manage these costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contract Management:Quantity surveyors prepare and manage contracts, ensuring they are clear, accurate, and protect the interests of all parties involved.
  • Tendering and Procurement:They assist in the tendering process by preparing tender documents and evaluating bids from contractors.
  • Risk Management:QS professionals identify and assess potential risks associated with a project's cost and schedule, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Value Engineering:They explore ways to optimize the project's value while staying within budget, often by finding alternative materials or construction methods.
  • Dispute Resolution:In case of disputes between parties, quantity surveyors can help resolve them by providing expert advice on cost and contractual matters.
  • Liaison with Stakeholders:They collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the project's success.
