R&D Engineer

Job Summary

The R&D Engineer will be responsible for research, formulation development, testing, and process optimization of polymer and rubber compounds, specifically XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) and NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) materials. The role involves product innovation, cost optimization, and ensuring compliance with international quality standards.

Key Responsibilities :Research & Development

• Develop and modify formulations for XLPE and NBR compounds
• Conduct lab trials and pilot production testing
• Improve product performance (thermal resistance, mechanical strength, chemical resistance)
• Develop new products based on market and customer requirements

Process Optimization

• Optimize compounding and curing processes
• Troubleshoot production issues related to material properties
• Work closely with production team for scale-up from lab to plant

Testing & Quality Control

• Perform physical, mechanical, and chemical testing
• (Tensile strength, elongation, hardness, aging, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, ISO, and other industry standards
• Maintain detailed documentation of R&D activities
• Cost & Material Analysis
• Evaluate raw materials and alternative suppliers
• Reduce formulation cost while maintaining performance
• Support procurement with technical evaluation

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Coordinate with QA/QC, Production, Sales, and Procurement
• Provide technical support to customers when required

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
• Polymer Engineering
• Chemical Engineering
• Materials Science
• 3–7 years experience in rubber/polymer compounding (XLPE, NBR preferred)

Technical Skills

• Rubber compounding and curing systems
• Polymer testing equipment
• Knowledge of ASTM / ISO standards
• Data analysis and reporting
• Problem-solving & root cause analysis

Preferred Skills

• Experience in cable compounds or insulation materials (for XLPE)
• Knowledge of mixing equipment (Banbury, twin-screw extruder)
• ERP documentation skills
• Strong analytical thinking

Pay: AED1.00 - AED2.00 per month
