We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Reinsurance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support our strategic initiatives across operations, technology transformation, data analytics, and risk management within the reinsurance domain. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain knowledge, industry best practices, and hands-on experience in both treaty and facultative reinsurance across life, health, and/or P&C sectors.
This role is critical in bridging business needs with technical implementation, supporting solution design, product development, transformation programs, or client engagements.
Requirements
- Domain Expertise & Advisory:
- Act as a trusted advisor and domain expert on all matters related to reinsurance (treaty, facultative, proportional, non-proportional).
- Provide insights into industry trends, regulations, and operational challenges.
- Collaborate with internal and client teams to define reinsurance strategies and frameworks.
- Solution Design & Implementation:
- Support design and delivery of reinsurance systems, automation, and data solutions.
- Guide functional and technical teams in developing system requirements, business rules, and workflows for reinsurance processes (ceding, assumed, accounting, claims, etc.).
- Participate in system transformation initiatives, including core platform replacements or enhancements.
- Data, Analytics & Reporting:
- Advise on reinsurance data models, data quality, and analytics frameworks.
- Assist in developing reporting dashboards, actuarial inputs, or regulatory reporting mechanisms.
- Provide domain support for data migration, reconciliation, and validation activities.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Interact with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, claims, actuarial, IT, and finance.
- Represent the reinsurance function in client meetings, workshops, and internal strategy sessions.
- Translate business needs into actionable requirements for developers, product managers, and analytics teams.
- Risk & Compliance:
- Ensure solutions are aligned with regulatory standards (e.g., IFRS 17, Solvency II) and internal risk frameworks.
- Contribute to risk assessments and internal audit reviews related to reinsurance processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Actuarial Science, Business, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in the reinsurance industry (life, health, or P&C), with a strong understanding of operations, systems, and data.
- Deep knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance structures, accounting, bordereaux management, claims processing, and reporting.
- Experience working with reinsurance systems (e.g., SAP FS-RI, SICS, TAI, DXC, or custom platforms).
- Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to interact with both business and technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (IFRS 17, Solvency II, NAIC, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in large-scale technology transformation or data migration projects in the insurance/reinsurance sector.
- Prior consulting experience or work with a reinsurance broker, reinsurer, or systems integrator.
- Working knowledge of data analytics, ETL tools, or actuarial modeling environments is a plus.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARe, or actuarial designations) are a plus.
