Real Property Appraiser Trainee/I

Description

The Tax Office seeks to accurately and impartially appraise all property in accordance with applicable state laws and to collect all ad valorem taxes.

An hourly salary range of $24.71 to $28.72 is anticipated for the Real Property Appraiser Trainee position.
An hourly salary range of $27.45 to $31.91 is anticipated for the Real Property Appraiser I position.


Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are identified as those that are essential for an employee to perform.


  • Physically visits property sites for the purpose of measuring dimensions & listing real property characteristics of both residential and commercial structures for tax assessment purposes. This requires work in all outdoor weather extremes.
  • Differentiates and identifies quality grade, depreciated physical condition, foundation type, roof type, interior/exterior wall type, number/type of rooms, heating/cooling system, types of building attachments, etc. of real property structures encountered.
  • Must possess strong customer service/communication skills to assist property owners and others with inquiries regarding property listing data and assessed values.
  • Work product must meet expected production and quality requirements and be subject to continued and periodic reviews by the supervisor.
  • Must work responsibly and manage time efficiently and effectively while performing fieldwork.
  • Must be able to work efficiently within the tax office software, including all supporting assessment programs and tools such as GIS Mapping, Word, Excel and any other programs necessary to perform the work accurately.

Minimum Qualifications

Proof of education is no longer required at the time of application unless specified as part of the minimum qualifications; however, proof of education is required if employment is offered.

Trainee

  • Completion of High School or GED equivalency required.
  • Work experience related to appraisal work, construction or property management preferred
  • Must be able to meet and maintain expected production and accuracy levels, which is required for continued employment.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
  • Must be certified as a Real Property Appraiser through the North Carolina Department of Revenue within 2 years of hire.
Appraiser I
  • Same qualifications as above except must be certified as a Real Property Appraiser through the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Additional Information

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
