Anticipated Hiring Range: $15.50 - $16.00/hourVacancies: 1The Summer Recreation Specialist is a seasonal non-benefited earning position and will work up to 30 hours/week. Rec on the Spot is a staffed, mobile recreation unit that will make scheduled stops at designated parks throughout the summer engaging youth and teens between ages 5-14 in fun activities. This position is responsible for leading activities for the Recreation On The Spot (ROTS) program and summer special event programs. The ROTS program operates Monday-Thursday of each week during the summer from mid-June to mid-August. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 5pm and Wednesdays from 12pm-8pm. Additional special events includes Summer in the City (June 9th, 23rd & July 14th) events and the annual Fourth of July parade on July 2nd.This is us! - Video link - click here to get to know us! The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.Recreation activitiesEngages youth in recreational activities, programs and events.Maintains order and assures participants are following set policies.Understands policies and procedures to ensure safe environment exists for all participants; maintains order and completes required reports.Assists the Recreation Supervisor and Rec on the Spot Coordinator with program duties.Attends all staff development/training programs and staff meetings.Reports any accident and assists with completing required reports.Assists with facility and program set-up and clean-up.Participates in First Aid and Emergency training when provided. Builds effective relations throughout the organization through communication, collaboration, and effective delivery of servicesProvides effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.Follows oral and written instructions.Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.Performs essential position duties and responsibilities under the working conditions and physical demands described herein.Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and outside agencies, and the general public.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to the following: Minimum 16 years of age.Experience babysitting or supervising multiple children at one time.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 18 years of age.Ability to drive a pick-up with a trailer.Coursework, classes, or training in a camp or recreation program setting.Experience working with the public and providing customer service.Experience working with diverse populations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position will be primarily located at various City parks, possibly during inclement weather. This position works independently as well as closely with others. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet, but may be exposed to loud noises during various recreation activities.TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: The ROTS program operates Monday-Thursday of each week during the summer from mid-June to mid-August.
