This Part time position is located at First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park, three and one half miles north of Ulm, MT.

First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park, a National Historic Landmark and archaeological site, is approximately 3000-acres and contains the largest buffalo jump in North America. Located where the prairie transitions to the eastern Rocky Mountain Front and among the scenic buttes and island mountain ranges, it is a vitally important cultural, prehistoric site that was used during the “Dog Days” by several Plains and Plateau tribes. A 6000 square foot visitor center contains exhibits that tell the story of how tribes conducted a buffalo jump hunt and processed the animals after they were stampeded off the cliff. There is also a gift shop operated by park staff. A 3 - mile interpretive trail tells additional history as visitors are hiking through the area. The Park also has 4-miles of trails on the North side of the park. Park staff host students from all over Montana and neighboring states as the site is a favorite field trip destination. Visitors from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries enjoy the site to learn about tribal cultures.

Anticipated entry to duty is in May of 2026. Work shifts will be two days per week generally weekends or occasionally a weekday and weekend day. The position will encompass a broad variety of duties and no two days are the same. One day you may be taking fees and interacting with the public in the visitor center and the next day you may be guiding a school group on the trail teaching them the fascinating history of the site. The candidate must be physically able to perform extended walking on uneven terrain, perform light custodial duties, as well as operate standard office equipment. Most duties will be conducted in the parks visitor center but there will also be time outside on the parks trails and grounds. Must be comfortable working with the public, collecting fees and sales, and presenting information and programs to audiences of all ages.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education. One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management, interpretive visitor center, or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
