Are you ready to lead community-centered recreation across some of Redmond’s most dynamic and well-used spaces? The City of Redmond Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an innovative and experienced Recreation Supervisor to oversee programming and operations at the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village, which houses teen services, City field rentals, the Old Redmond Schoolhouse, which includes an art studio, dance studio, and gym space and recreational programs delivered in parks across the system and programs through community partners.

The Recreation Supervisor provides oversight and is responsible for the planning and implementation of recreation programs, rentals, and services tied to multiple community locations, including comprehensive staff and budget administration. This position will develop, maintain, and enhance innovative programs and partnerships, while providing strategic guidance and operational leadership. The role includes substantial interaction with internal and external resources including staff, contractors, renters, volunteers, officials, and the general public.

This is a full-time position scheduled for weekdays (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.); however, significant evening and weekend work is required based on departmental needs.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Facility Leadership & Operations Management: Oversee daily operations, and programming for two major community hubs:

Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village, a 20,000+ sq. ft. facility featuring flexible meeting rooms, multi-purpose spaces, a lecture classroom, fitness studio, outdoor patio, and teen lounge.

Old Redmond Schoolhouse, a 9,700+ sq. ft. facility that includes a gymnasium, clay studio, and flexible-use spaces operated through a lease with Lake Washington School District.

In addition, this role will be responsible for:

  • Field Rentals: Manage athletic field rentals across the City, ensuring fair use, efficient scheduling, policy enforcement, and strong relationships with renters and partner organizations.
  • Park-Based & Partner Programming: Oversee programs delivered in Redmond parks and in partnership with local organizations, responding to community needs and emerging trends.
  • Staff Development & Team Culture: Lead a team of three Recreation Coordinators and one Program Assistant, plus supplemental staff, providing clear direction, supportive coaching, and alignment with department vision and city priorities.
  • Strategic Planning: Play a key role in shaping the future of recreation in Redmond through contributions to system-wide planning efforts such as the PARCC Plan and Recreation Program Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Facility Operations & Vision Setting

  • Serve as the main point of contact and operational lead for the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village and the Old Redmond Schoolhouse
  • Ensure effective and engaging daily operations, facility utilization, and program coordination
  • Lead the vision and strategic integration of assigned facilities into the broader Parks and Recreation system
  • Support development and implementation of short- and long-range section plans and operational improvements

Team Leadership & Staff Management

  • Directly supervise multiple Recreation Coordinators, a Program Assistant, and supplemental/seasonal staff
  • Collaborate across teams to create a positive, inclusive, and customer-focused environment
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff; provide clear direction and ongoing mentorship
  • Support staff understanding of city frameworks including the PARCC Plan, Cost-of-Service model, and emergency protocols

Program Development & Strategic Planning

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs across multiple sites and service areas
  • Ensure offerings reflect community input, diversity, and evolving recreation trends
  • Support and implement citywide recreation goals through data-driven decision-making and key performance indicators
  • Stay current on local, state, and federal regulations and best practices affecting programming and facilities

Budget & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the section's annual budget
  • Oversee fee structures, field rental rates, and financial tracking systems
  • Ensure adherence to the Department’s Cost-of-Service methodology and fiscal accountability

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Cultivate relationships with renters, community partners, and participants to build program loyalty and expand access
  • Coordinate effectively with contracted officials, instructors, and vendors for leagues and programs
  • Represent the City at regional events and partnership meetings
  • Administer contracts and ensure compliance with terms and service standards

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Three years experience in parks and recreation operations,
  • Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or Bachelor’s Degree preferred,
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certificates

  • Valid First Aid & CPR certifications (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)

  • Offers of employment are conditional based on the candidate successfully passing both background and reference checks. Internal candidates are subject to passing a new background if the previous check was conducted more than six months ago.
  • Additionally, new hires relocating to the area are required to have Washington State residency within 30 days of their start date to comply with payroll tax purposes.
