Referral and Patient Benefits Manager

Cypress Physical Therapy is looking for a Referral and Patient Benefits Manager to oversee and manage the responsibilities and duties of this role.


Summary:

Referral Manager: manages patient or client referrals by coordinating with providers to schedule appointments, verifying insurance and securing authorizations, communicating with patients, maintaining accurate records, and resolving issues to ensure access to necessary healthcare services or other support.

Patient Benefits Manager: is responsible in obtaining insurance pre-authorizations and verifying patient insurance benefits.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient/Client Management: Assist clients by assessing their needs and providing information on scheduling.
  • Coordination: Act as a liaison between patients, referring providers, specialists, and insurance companies to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete referral forms, process paperwork, maintain detailed patient records, and utilize internal systems for data entry.
  • Insurance and Authorization: Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations or pre-certifications for referred services.
  • Communication: Inform patients about their referral status, appointment details, and any required preparation, and address their questions and concerns.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve any obstacles during the referral process, such as denied claims or rescheduled appointments.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all referral processes and patient information adhere to healthcare regulations and privacy laws.
  • Process Improvement: Monitor the referral process and outcomes, providing feedback to help improve overall patient care and service efficiency.
  • Benefit Education: Counseling patients on their insurance benefits, co-pays, and other financial aspects of their care.
  • Pre-authorization & Claims: Obtaining necessary pre-authorizations from insurance providers and assisting with the submission of insurance claims.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient insurance information in the practice management system.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and providers.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills are needed to manage multiple referrals, appointments, and complex documentation.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to data entry and record-keeping ensures accuracy and compliance.
  • Medical Terminology/Insurance Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terms and health insurance processes is often required.
  • Empathy: The ability to show empathy is crucial when working with patients and clients who may be experiencing stressful situations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer systems, data entry, and relevant software is necessary for efficient management of referrals and records.
