Job Description:
Responsible for scheduling patient appointments who are referred into our practice by outside providers and ER’s in an efficient and timely manner. Assists with managing other duties within the business office when free time available.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Handles all incoming referrals from the ER, hospital stays and referring physicians.
Verifies patient demographics, and ensures that patients go to the correct facility, based on insurance plan and obtains authorization and/or electronic referrals from insurance company if needed.
Document authorization number and/or referral number, how many visits good for and expiration date along with what is covered under approval. Make sure documents for approval are scanned and entered into patient’s chart.
Schedules appointment with proper provider based on referral.
Call patient with date and time of their scheduled appointment. Call referring provider with date/time of appointment.
After patient appointment, makes sure referring provider receives office note to close out the specialist’s referral loop.
Sorts inbound referrals and assigns to appropriate office provider.
Manages the first available appointment slot and screens schedule daily to know where first available appointment is.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Word processing and computer experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of insurance companies
Knowledge of ICD10 coding.
