Refuse Truck Driver

JOB
The Solid Waste & Recycling Division is primarily responsible for the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste generated in the County as required by North Carolina State Law and in accordance with all applicable local regulations. Gaston County currently uses an integrated solid waste management plan consisting of sanitary landfilling, compost/mulch, recycling, and related waste reduction programs. An hourly salary range of $22.45 - $26.11 is anticipated for this position.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.Performs work operating a roll-off truck to collect garbage and recyclables from County's 6 Convenience/Recycling Centers. This includes loading/tarping open-top containers and compactors. Also, once containers are loaded, driver must clean up area where container was removed. Transports garbage and recyclables from Convenience/Recycling centers to vendors. Driver will also haul multiple loads of recyclables back to the baling facility at the landfill. Driver coordinates these deliveries with landfill staff. Driver works with Convenience center staff to move containers as needed to help with flow of traffic and operations. Loads and unloads containers for special projects located around the County as needed. Coordinates with supervisor and staff to ensure containers are located properly and serviced as needed. Operates equipment al landfill as needed. Includes compactor, dozer, loader, graders, dump trucks or off-road trucks. Performs visual inspections including greasing and cleaning of roll-off truck and performs routine maintenance of equipment. This includes tires, lights, coolant, oil, etc. Reports the presence of unsafe working conditions or hazardous materials at any Division facility.
