Position Details:

Facility: BayCare Health System – Respiratory Care Services, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital

Location: St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital – Tampa, FL

Status: Full Time, Exempt: No

Shift Hours: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Shift: Nights (Shift 3)

Weekend Work: Occasional

On Call: No

Remote Work: Never

Job Summary

Functions as a coordinator and provides advanced and specialized respiratory care in high-acuity settings including the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), Emergency and/or Trauma Services, and/or the Transport Team. Demonstrates proficiency in performing complex respiratory interventions and advanced treatment modalities validated through observation, competency check-offs, and formal assessments.

Serves as a lead therapist, preceptor, mentor, and role model within the department. Supports clinical excellence by guiding peers, promoting best practices, and ensuring high standards of patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced respiratory care under physician orders and BayCare protocols
  • Perform complex respiratory interventions and utilize advanced ventilation modalities
  • Serve as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for respiratory therapy team members
  • Provide coverage and clinical support across neonatal and pediatric critical care areas as needed

Certification and Licensure Required:

  • Active National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (RRT-NPS)
  • Must work a majority of annual hours in SJWH/SJCH NICU and/or PICU critical care areas

Additional Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS – within 30 days of hire/transfer
  • PALS – within 6 months if working in pediatric critical care
  • NRP – within 6 months if working in neonatal critical care

Education Required

  • Completion of an accredited Technical Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Preferred: Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy

Specific Skills Required

  • Advanced respiratory assessment and intervention in neonatal and pediatric critical care settings
  • Proficiency in advanced respiratory care modalities
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to mentor, precept, and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team
  • Adaptability to work across multiple high-acuity environments
