Regional Sales Manager

Purpose of Position:


Regional Sales Manager will promote the sale of all Word and Brown General Agency’s products as an outside sales representative. Products will include small and large group benefit lines. Sales will be made to brokers in the assigned territory. This will be accomplished through presentations to brokers in the territory as well as presentations to key industry brokers and small business owners. Will also work with and develop relationships with Carrier partners to increase distribution of products assigned territory.



Essential Functions:


Regional Sales Managers will complete a 90-day training period. After the 90-day training period, they are required to perform the following functions:

  • Regional Sales Manager will work with Director of Field Sales to develop key sales techniques to be used for both broker and client presentations.
  • Will assist brokers with creatively designing presentations, which can be implemented when presenting to end user (business owner), ultimately increasing sales of Word and Brown General Agency’s products.
  • Will also conduct seminars for various broker audiences.
  • Will interface heavily with an inside sales representative to enhance a team sales effort.
  • Require extensive day travel.
  • RSM meets with agents and clients in the field daily and gets business written through Word & Brown.
  • RSM is the "face" of Word and Brown in their distinct territory and represents the company at trade shows and Health Underwriter's meetings.
  • Conducts employer enrollment meetings
  • Visit brokers and follows up on service calls
  • Prepares enrollment kits and performs administrative duties
  • Prepares monthly activity report
  • On-site or remote regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Performs other business tasks or functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:


  • 2-3 years industry experience in group health insurance sales.
  • Must have 2 years industry experience in small group sales.
  • Know the small group market competition.
  • Extremely self-disciplined, ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Success driven, ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to conduct one on one, face to face sales presentations as well as the
    ability to make presentations in front of large groups.
  • Fluent in the English language.
  • Working knowledge of carrier portfolio and related products and services.
  • Computer literate and excellent telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure.
  • Adhere to all PHI (Protected Health Information) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines.

Educational Requirements:


  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • College education preferred
  • Must hold an active California State - Health and Life Insurance License
