Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow and patient comfort
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining strict infection control and aseptic techniques
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring high-quality medical imaging for accurate diagnosis
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Dentrix or Epic, accurately documenting patient information, treatment plans, and medical histories in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Perform vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort throughout procedures in pediatric dentistry and general dentistry settings
- Provide comprehensive chairside assistance by understanding dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and assisting with complex procedures like prosthodontics or endodontics
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient flow efficiently
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for seamless documentation and record keeping
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Experience with dental radiography including X-ray techniques and 3D scanner operation for precise imaging
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile clinical environment
- Ability to communicate effectively using dental terminology and medical terminology for accurate patient education and documentation
- Skilled in pediatric dentistry practices to create a welcoming environment for young patients
- Knowledge of medical coding and medical records management for accurate billing and documentation processes
- Competence in general dentistry procedures along with specialized fields such as prosthodontics or endodontics
- Ability to operate dental software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft efficiently while managing appointment scheduling and patient records
- Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple tasks such as vital signs measurement, assisting with procedures, and maintaining clinical supplies
